- David Lloyd Evans (D.L.) was born in 1854 in Brigham City, Utah and taught by his widowed pioneer mother the importance of industry and hard work
- Moved with his mother and two younger brothers to the Malad Valley in Idaho, where they homesteaded a 160-acre farm
- Attended local pioneer schools and then University of Deseret in Salt Lake City, Utah to earn teaching certificates
- Formed family partnership that led to development of two Evans Cooperative Mercantile Stores, several ranches/farms, investments in thirteen pioneer Idaho/Utah banks
- D.L. Evans Bank started as small business capitalized with $25,000 by southern Idaho businessmen on September 15th 1904
