  • By 1880s Ketchum had 13 saloons, four restaurants, two hotels and all types of businesses necessary for a thriving town
  • In 1936 Union Pacific Chairman Averell Harriman hired Count Felix Schaffgosch to scout West for spot on which to build destination ski resort; Sun Valley Resort was completed and opened within year with international publicity
  • Celebrities flocked to area; Ernest Hemingway finished For Whom The Bell Tolls at Suite 206 of Sun Valley Lodge
  • Evidence of star-studded history can be viewed at Sun Valley Lodge and Ketchum Museum/Community Library
  • Sun Valley is located within unceded territory of Shoshone, Bannock & Lemhi tribes
